Superstar Ajay Devgn says his upcoming directorial venture “Shivaay” revolves around the imperfections of Lord Shiva and how it makes him strong.

Ajay, 46, who is also playing the titular character in the film, said the movie is not an epic but a modern take on the story.

“As a devotee, I like the characteristics of Shiva. My film is not a mythology. It’s a modern film. Shiva is the only God, who had flaws like a human being. All the other Gods are perfect.

Ajay Devgn starrer Shivaay trailer shows that, Shivaay is a Himalayan mountaineer who is an innocent everyman and yet is capable of transforming into a mean destroyer when he needs to protect his family.

Ajay emerges as the main force in the entire trailer. His narrative praising Lord Shiva and his expressions seem to match step by step. Ajay is quintessentially intense in most scenes. But there are also snatches of distraught, brooding expressions that Ajay carries off well. Ajay’s monologue about Shiva has seeped into almost every frame of the trailer. The use of allusions to Shiva while exploring his various aspects is interesting and intriguing. It will be interesting to see how the movie connects the different layers of Lord Shiva to that of a common man. As Ajay said, “There is no beginning and no end. He is indivisible, equally to all. He is nothing yet everything. Shiva is in all of us,” in his deep baritone, every scene seems to come alive on screen.

The trailer doesn’t give away much but seems to be a story about a man with a mission and how he goes about facing challenges in the face of circumstances. Ajay’s scenes with child actor Abigail Eames also seem to be a common thread all along the trailer. And it also seems to the only real bond between two people in the trailer. We can’t see much of both female leads, Erika Kaar and Sayyeshaa Saigal in the trailer.

The film will see a face-off with Karan Johar’s “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil”, starringAishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, and Anushka Sharma. But the actor is completely unperturbed by the box-office clash.

“I don’t care. It doesn’t matter to me at all. Everybody has the right to release their film whenever they want. I have to concentrate on my film. I think everybody should concentrate on their own work,” said Ajay, whose “Son of Sardar” too had a box-office clash with Shah Rukh Khan starrer “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” in 2012.

“Shivaay” also marks the National-award-winning actor’s return to the director’s chair after 2008 film “U Me Aur Hum”.
