Cricket Has GOD But Hockey ? 0 1167

India’s national game was hockey without God till the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports declared in August 2012 that India has no national sport. A game which you or I read in our text books in school as the national game is landed nowhere,  do we ever think about it. We are trying to compare here why Cricket in India has God and what really happen to the national game. Cricket players become the celebrity but why not hockey players. Just not about hockey it is about every other game.

Is it the money that makes the difference between any other game? or what? In this article we are trying to find out that conclusion, your comments and your views are invited and try to be honest in it.

Before writing anything let see the history of both the game.

The first hockey club came up in Calcutta in 1885-86 and the hockey team debut in Olympics in 1928. It was the first non-European team to be a part of the International Hockey Federation. In 1928, the team won its first Olympic gold medal. From 1928 to 1956, the Indian men’s team remained unbeaten in the Olympics, gaining six gold medals in a row. The Indian team has won a total of eight gold, one silver and two bronze medals in Olympics.

India was invited into The Imperial Cricket Council in 1926, and made their debut as a Test playing nation in England in 1932. India recorded their first Test victory, in their 24th match, against England at Madras in 1952. India won the Cricket World Cup in 1983, defeating the favorites and two-time defending champions West Indies in the final, owing to a strong bowling performance.

There is bias in the sports and media against hockey. India hockey team won bronze in the world’s hockey final league, but was that celebrated. No,we all were busy in celebrating Virat-Anushka marriage, or Rohit Sharma’s double century.

That’s not the only bias you can see in the sports industry, if you search the hockey players life in India you can find how they are earning their lives. We are the people who delcared Sachin Tendulkar a GOD of Cricket.

We don’t really want to think on it, because are busy in “All India Bakchod” (AIB).  Same we can go with Football and many other games which are struggling to find out their place in India itself. Worst condition I can say is for Hockey, who gave fame to India but now struggling, although players of Hockey are doing great and play good games.

Magician of Indian Hockey Major Dhyan Chand, he never called God of Hockey. I am not sure the level of emotion of Indian fans. No doubt Sachin is one of the best players but in the end, he is the player who is playing for India and whatever records he made will be broken by someone someday. We can see how Virat’s is playing. But there are such records of Major Dhyan Chand which might not be broken. I feel bad about hockey and Dhyan Chand. What about you.

Hope this year government may consider him Bharat Ratna. However, he is already Ratna of Bharat.
